President Akufo-Addo inaugurates Tain District Hospital

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Friday inaugurated the Tain District Hospital at Nsawkaw in the Bono Region.
The 60-bed hospital with the state-of-the-art facility is expected to serve more than 30,000 people in the district and its adjourning communities.

The facility will also serve as a referral centre for cases from the non-sophisticated health care facilities in the area.

Facilities

The hospital – containing 24 different buildings – has a maintenance unit, central storage areas, water treatment system, sewerage treatment system, medical waste treatment system, a mortuary, a kitchen, physiotherapy unit, maternity and child care unit, pharmacy, laundry, and a parking space for more than 100 cars.

The hospital has four operating theatres, covering different specialties – a radiology department equipped with ultrasound, echocardiography, x-ray machines; and a laboratory.

Inauguration

Speaking at the inauguration on Friday, November 6, 2020, President Akufo-addo said his government would ensure that every part of the country had its fair share of the national cake.
He said his government is working to ensure that resources are fairly distributed, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and equipment.

He commended the people of Nsawkaw for their contribution to the development of the country, especially in the areas of agriculture.
President Akufo-Addo expressed the hope that the hospital would go a long way to improve healthcare delivery in the area and by extension, in the country.

He also urged the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service and the community and staff of the hospital to ensure that the hospital is well maintained in order to serve the purpose for which it was constructed.

Euroget’s commitment

The Vice Chairman of Euroget Group, Mr Emad Deraz reading a speech on behalf of the Chairman of the Euroget, Dr Said Deraz, said the Nsawkaw hospital brings to four the number of hospitals constructed and commissioned by the company in the country.

He said the company constructed the 60-bed Tepa Municipal Hospital, the 100-bed Ga East Municipal Hospital at Kwabenya, and the 160-bed Upper West Regional Hospital in Wa.

“Today’s event is in fulfilment of our commitment to complete and handover all our projects on schedule for the good people of Ghana,” he said.

He expressed the hope that the hospital built and fitted with ultra-modern equipment would go a long way to provide good quality health care to the good people of the area.

“Euroget De-Invest is here to ensure the long-term sustainability of this beautiful edifice that we are handing over to the country today,” Mr Deraz said, pledging that the company would deliver the other projects it’s working on time.

“We wish to assure you of our commitment to deliver the rest of the hospitals to Ministry of Health and Ministry of Defence to the same high level of quality as this hospital,” he noted.

He said although the project construction experienced its fair share of challenges, the support the company received from the Ministry of Health and other government agencies such as Ministry of Finance and Ghana Revenue Authority helped it to overcome those challenges.

Maintenance

Mr Deraz also pledged that the company would maintain a visible presence in the hospital for another three years to provide remedial works on buildings and other structures during the 12 months Defects Liability Period, warranty maintenance of medical equipment for a period of 12 months after handover, and post-warranty maintenance of medical equipment for a further period of 24 months after the warranty period.
